I am new to Buddhism, don't know of any Buddhist community, and would like to find out how to belong to a sangha. I live in Cavite but am in Manila as many as 3 timesa week.

Please, read Wikipedia article Buddhism in the Philippines that I have revised recently. It mentions the temples where you can go for instruction and the prayer service. The addresses are also in this article. I've closed the Zen centre in Laguna last June because I've returned to Canada. You can contact me by email at csamnak@yahoo.ca should you have any questions about Zen practices and Buddhism. You may visit the Bul Kuk Sa Temple on Parsons Dr., BF Homes, to see if their services will suit your needs. Your good karma has ripened for you to find out about the Dharma. Best wishes!

Hello, Sheryl,

Thank you so much for the response. I sent the message a long, long time ago, but this must be the right time, thus your response. I became acquainted with Buddhism in the US, where I lived for 33 years. I was a frequent visitor to different temples, but did not affiliate with any specific sect (Japanese Zen, Tibetan, Vietnamese, Thai). I collected Buddhist writings as part of my personal library - and still do. My latest purchases were of Pema Chodron and Jack Kornfield.

Do let me know when you're coming to the Philippines, about your plan to set up a society, and how to take advantage of your offer to study Buddhism in Japan.

Let me warn you I am a young 69 year old man, with a 26-year old son. I do volunteer work in education and occasionally do consulting (organization development). Most of what I do involves conducting personal and professional development workshops.
