I am looking for information about an abandoned rock quarry off of Old Quarry Road, Wendell, NC.

I am trying to learn the history of the quarry, how long it has been abandoned, etc. Does the city use it for any purpose like a park or future park? Are there any toxic wastes on the property or in the water of the quarry?

I have heard that high school/ college kids, scuba divers, regularly use it to swim and family picnics. I have also heard there have been quite a few drownings, have all been accidental?
