I am going have my first steer butchered and want process the hide myself. I plan to flesh the hide, then tan it. Do I have to salt the hide before tanning, or can I proceed to tanning after fleshing. I want to end up with a hair on hide that could be used as a throw or to make purses and such things. What chemicals and methods should we use......I can fashion a fleshing board, and have a plastic container large enough to hold the whole hide, a fleshing knife, and plenty of elbow grease. Any help to point me in the right direction will be appreciated!
