I am currently writing the history of the O Class destroyer HMS Onslow, which was sold to Pakistan in 1947, and renamed PNS Tippu Sultan, she was later converted to a type 16 frigate, and took part in Exercise Midlink 73 in the gulf with the IN ships PNS Badr, PNS Jahangir and PNS Dacca. Also taking part in the exercise were ships from the Iranian Navy and possably ships from the Turkish Navy. Can anyone tell me which ships from the Iranian Navy were involved in the exercise, and also two years later in Exercise Midlink 75. Any information on these exercises would be useful!
Thank You,
John Thompson.

The IIN Ships in Midlink 1975 included KHANAMOI, ARTEMIZ - I do not recall any Turkish ships being there. HMS ONSLOW remained operational in the PAK NAVY as PNS TIPPU SULTAN till 1978, on her last sea trip she towed to Karachi a PN submarine after that submarine was involved in a emergency surfacing procedure. TIPPU was the favorite of all fleet commanders as she was the only destroyer with a Admiral Cabin. After decommisioning in 1978 she was recommissioned as PNS MUHAFIZ, prepared as a depot ship for the 10th Patrol craft squadron. Her final role was as a tender and barrack ship moored in Gwadar Bay in 1981 for development of shore based facilities on the Gwadar hammer head. She was towed back to Karachi in 1983 and shortly thereafter sold to the breakers for scrap at Gadani Ship breaking area west of Karachi.
