Big Bang

I am confused about the Big Bang; it seems impossible for the following reason.
When we see objects in space the light from them has taken time to reach us so we se them in the past. The sun is 8 minutes away, the nearest star about 4 years away and when we see distant galaxies we are seeing them as they were millions of years ago. And when we see fast receding galaxies at the edge of the universe the light from them has taken 14 billion years to reach us so we are seeing what they were like 14 billion years ago.
The problem is that the Big Bang was 14 billion years ago and the universe would have been tiny as it was before all the expansion, yet what we see is the universe at its furthest extent. The two seem to be incompatible and so I am confused. It is as though the extent of the universe is both huge and a singularity at the same time!?

The universe would defined by the matter that occupies it i would believe. So therefore if all the matter in the universe was compressed to the size of a marble. Then the universe by deffinition would exist only in that marble sized space. The void of "space" as we precive it would still "exist" there would just be nothing in it.

And the singularity is just the discription of the event that ejected all the mass out to create the universe. It dosnt exist with us now. We dont see into the past we just see electrons that are billions of years old that are still traveling because of the big bag. They say they are looking back into the past to make it more understandable. Because we can see the effects of the singularity still, dosnt mean it still exists in our present time.
