I am attempting to create my very first multi-stage coil gun but my skills are still in the elementary level. I would greatly appreciate it if someone more knowledgeable than I would be kind enough to give me detailed instructions on how to get each coil to fire one after the other just as the projectile comes within the ideal position. I was considering calculating the time it takes on average for my projectile to travel from one coil to the other and then use a micro controller to set off my coils at set times, however, if there is a better way to do this then please, teach me.
