I am a student writing a business plan for a bagel and coffee shop and need to project cost of goods sold. Can anyone provide me with information about how much it costs to make a bagel? Thank you. Laura

Go to a website called; www.sunrisebagels.com Look at their franchaise information. It has a pretty accurate budget for starting a bagel shop.
Obviously, if you are not in the U.S. this has to be converted to your currency.
As far as your question; "What does it cost to make a bagel?"
here is a formula for 8 bagels.
1 cup of warm water plus 2 tablespoons 105-115 degrees
1 package of active dry yeast
2 1/2 teaspoons of sugar
1 Tablespoon of vegetable shortening
1 3/4 teaspoons of salt
1 cup of bread flour
gradually add in 3 to 3 1/2 more cups of bread flour.

Total cost of ingredients including cornmeal to dust the pan is: 79 cents divided by 8 is a dime a piece.
