I am 62 years old, medically retired just over 5 years from teaching in GA. I currently teach 12 hours/week receiving a small stipend which is earned through soliciting funds donated to the faith based non-profit for which I work. My stipend may decrease considerably by end of the summer unless I raise more support. I have applied for social security benefits to begin in July receiving the first check in August. My question is this: which is wiser, continue with this plan and if I can live without using it, deposit it into my IRA which I plan to leave untouched until I am 70 or should I withdraw my application to social security & reapply when I am 65 or 66? I have a small savings account of about $4,000 for emergencies, but that is all my funds, no other stocks, bonds, etc. My retirement pension is small due to retiring early/unexpectedly as a result of illness leaving me unable to continue my normal job. Loo forward to your response.
