Hazrat Shams-e-Tabrizi(raz) ad. 1248 was an Iranian Sufi mystic born in the city of Tabriz in Iranian Azerbaijan. He is responsible for initiating Mawlana Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi (rah), usually known as Rumi in the West, into Islamic mysticism, and is immortalized by Rumi's poetry collection Diwan-e Shams-e Tabriz-i ("The Works of Shams of Tabriz") (raz). Hazrat Shams-e-Tabrizi(raz) lived together with Rumi in Koyna in present-day Turkey, for several years, and is also known to have travelled to Damascus in present-day Syria, Bistam, Kharqan, (in Iran), Merv (Turkmenstan), Shash (Afghanistan) and Zirat (Hunza State) in India now-a-days in northern part of Pakistan. In all through the travels he presents himself as traders and travel as for as China, Kashmir and Hunza State, where no one gave him foods to eat for weeks and finally settled at Multan, where sun came down to 6ft height to cook his meat loaf or fish. He passed through Indus Valley near the town 'Hamida'and some of the travelers with him settled there and are still living il the Indus Valley. As a tradition in Hunza State (Pakistan)Ismaili community still celebrate the arrivals of a saint Shams Tabrizi who deeply love Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his family.
