So much has been made of how inconvenient the canines were to this big cat and it's hunting techniques. Why do they not look at nature and see that large canines like this are perfect for cutting through tendon in the lower legs of prey, crippling it and then just waiting for it to weaken enough for an easy kill? Many species employ this technique, with variations across the board with a great variety of predators. Even sea creatures employ it among certain species. The kamodo dragon even employs a variation but because of small teeth unsuitable for delivering a lethal wound, the small wounds provide enough damage to facilitate the infections that are. Given the broad employment of this technique and it's variations why would this not be a successful tactic for the smilodon?
