The T.Rex was named by the President of the American Museum of Natural History in 1905 - Henry Fair Field Osborn

That's easy.Nobody named it,hence,it was a dinosaur specie :

Species : Tyrannosaurus Rexs

it was shortened to :

T -T tyrannosaurus
Rex - Rex

so,originally,it was named after it's species.Duh
