How was electricity supplied for the electric headlight on steam locomotives and where was it located on the engine.

The older ones used Acetylene for source of light and didn't run much at night. Around 1900 they mounted a steam powered generator for both the lights on the loco and lights for passenger cars. In most cases they were mounted on the top area of the boiler and looked like the turbine part of a turbocharger.
