How do I avoid getting x-runs in JACK?

I have already taken the following step:

-installed the rt kernal
-added my name the the audio user group
-allotted 100 % priority to audio
-tried just about every combination of frames, periods, buffer that I can get to function in JACK (without getting an error that I cannot connect to the JACK audio server).

What do I do?
