Hmmm... They are teenagers. Sometimes teenagers do some crazy things. Plus, Mark is very manipulative and knows how to read people and apply that information so that he can best manipulate them. Also, Sue just wants to be accepted. She has low self-esteem. Perfect equation for danger!!!

I know right??!! Especially Jeff, I would have thought that he was smart enough not to be friends with him after the cat fire in seventh grade! That is like, one of the most common signs of a serial killer. And what kind of okay persom does that to cats? And I use the plural because by the way the book describes Mark saying it, he's obviously done it before. I wonder if it was stuff like that that caused him to move in with his aunt and uncle?
