Hi, my great grandfather was Sherlock Hibbs, a Lietunant Commander aboard the USS Makin Island during WWII. WHen he passed I inherited all his stuff from that era. I have Classified daily reports along with pictures. All of it is just collecting dust. I was wondering if anybody personally collects this stuff. I would like to see it go to a good home where it will be enjoyed. Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I met Sherlock and his friend Ralph Leach in about 1994, and knew him until his death. For about 1-1.5 years, we would walk to lunch most every Friday at the local Morrison's cafeteria. We would break that up and go to lunch with Ralph at his golf-club or another Ft. Lauderdale restaurant.

I have a few photos taken with Sherlock, my son and myself. He was a very interesting and caring man.

I know he didn't marry until about age 50 if I recall, as he said he was so busy with work that he felt it unfair for any relationship.

Just thought I would drop this note in case you were interested.

Sincerely,

Richard H. McCargar

Hi Richard, yes Sherlock married my great grandmother Margaret. Every summer I used to go to Rhode Island with them for the summer. We went sailing on his sailboat the Good Grief. Lots of good memories with him. Look me up on facebook nat wiler. Have a good day ;-)
