Hi everyone,
i have seen my grandmother make rugs with a punch type thing, she thread the wood through it and just punched through hessian bagging it amde a running stitch. when she finished she would turn the rug over and trim the wool into pile.
i would love to find out what the tool was because if was so easy i made 2 floor rugs when i was 12 and now she is gone and no one in my family is creative so they don't remember what this tool was. i know it was not latch hooking or fabric strip hooking.
if you can help i would appreciate it.
i am from australia so if you would like any information about our crafts just send an email and i will see what i can find out.
thanks

Hello!
It's almost one year since this was posted, so perhaps you've gotten some direction by now. But in case not, here's what I know. You're talking about the type of rug hooking known as "yarn punched" rugs. I use a "needle" known as The Oxford Punch Needle, sold by The Oxford Company in Cornwall, Vermont, USA. It retails for about $30 US.

If you "google" yarn punch rugs, you'll find many sites to investigate.

Good luck from California!
