Hi; Back in 1962 an English teacher read my class a story that I have been trying to track down for the past twenty years. People go into a house and never come out. A detective is trying to figure out where they went. There are no bodies. He hears woodchopping regularly. Eventually he figures out that the bodies were eaten - which is why he could not find them. But why the woodchopping? To work up an appetite. Can anyone tell me what story or author this was? The story was memorable in the extreme and I would like to read it to my descendants.
