Hi,
I'm extracting PAHs from soil with organic solvents and as part of the column clean up step prior to analysis I need to solvent exchange to hexane. I'm having problems with some of the samples which form a precipitate/flocculant, brownish red in colour. I'm assuming this might be fulvic/humic acids and considering the propensity for PAHs to bind strongly to such substances I definitely don't want to filter it.
I've looked at the possibility of using a solvent of similar polarity to hexane but don't want to use one as chemically similar to PAHs as eg. benzene or cyclohexane. Can anyone suggest a solution?
