Here's a question I'm surprised historians and mythologists haven't really seemed to discuss in very much detail--Could the Gaulish God Teutates actually be a reference to a pantheon of Gaulish tribal patron deities rather than a singular God? Perhaps Teutates is the Gaulish equivalent to the Irish Tuatha de Danann? They do share the same Celtic root word--"teuta", meaning "tribe" or "people".
