Has anyone any comments about dating of Stane Street (bearing in mind that it is now thought to underlie Roman Chichester)?

The dating evidence shows that it is early (and I mean really early) - see article.

Furthermore, Tegulae mammata (nipple-bricks) have been found in quantity at Alfoldean (Winbolt 1922, 104), suggesting a very early 1st stage construction of the mansio there, and which appear to have gone out of use c 90AD. These are early bricks referred to by Viturvius (VII, 4, 2) and Pliny (XXXV, 46, 159). Alao at Alfoldean, have been found sherds of Terra Rubra (to circa AD 65) and Pompeian Red Ware (in Britain c 40-80AD).
