From History of KY, Vol 1, by Lewis & Richard H. Collins, (p138, in Annals for the Year 1864) 9 Aug - Squire Turner, a distinguished citizen of Richmond, Madison co., aged 72, was shot and dangerously wounded by Col. Shackleford.
Does anybody know more about this incident? Squire Turner was pro-slavery: he'd been one of five legislators to rewrite KY's consitution in 1850, as the state sought to either adopt emancipation or retain slavery.
I understand Shackelford had resigned his commission in Jan 1864. It seems that, soon after shooting this 'distinguished citizen,' Shackleford heads for Indiana.
