Laser hair removal is often accomplished by means of different lasers for different procedures. At Denver Laser Hair Removal clinics and other such spas, you may find a variety of lasers used. Before attending your first consultation with a practitioner, it is always a good idea to educate yourself as much as possible. If you are considering safe and healthy laser hair removal treatments, here is a brief description of the types of lasers sometimes used.

Q-Switched ND: YAG Laser and the ND Long Pulse

Possibly the most effective of lasers used in laser hair removal treatments, the YAG laser is unique in that it can deliver two different wave lengths of light. For deeper penetration into the hair follicles, this laser emits an invisible infrared light. A second green light is emitted alternately with the infrared to produce rapid light pulses that provide effective results.

The ND YAG long pulse laser works effectively on all skin types and is even safe for tanned skin, which can be a real benefit for hair removal treatments during the summer months. One of the biggest advantages of this laser is the quick rate of repetition which allows fairly large surface areas to be covered quickly.

The ND Yag Laser is believed to produce the longest lasting results of all laser hair removal systems, but also has the highest reports of discomfort during use. Your hair removal professional will be able to address the issues of comfort level, results and side effects in depth at your consultation.

Alexandrite Laser

The Alexandrite laser is also a long pulse beam that can penetrate deep into hair follicles. Its ability to penetrate into actively growing hair shafts makes the results quite effective and long lasting. It is by far one of the most common lasers used today and achieves best results on light to olive complexions, and those with fine or thin hair.

Diode Laser

Through the use of small diodes and semiconductors that are arranged together to produce light, a very effective laser beam is produced. Because this method produces a longer wavelength than most other lasers, this method is very effective for darker skin types. Fast repetition rates and deep penetration are other advantages of the laser type.

Ruby Laser

For individuals with light skin and darker hair, the Ruby laser is perhaps the most effective for lasting laser hair removal results. The laser receives its name from the red laser beam that it emits. This beam is very effective at targeting the melanin inside the hair shafts and also adjoining hair follicles. It is this specific targeting that achieves the long lasting results.

Individuals who have been treated with Ruby laser wands report very minimal discomfort or side effects, and have also said that recurring hair growth tends to be finer and less noticeable. This laser does however, have a fairly slow repetition rate so more sessions may be required to achieve desired results.
