I just wanted to THANK Mrs. Matalin for ALL her hard work all the effort she made in fighting a bill that I believe violates the Freedom of Information Act and Right to Know Act.
I applaud you, Mrs. Matalin for standing up to the Farm Industry who tried to make video documentation of abuse on factory farms a criminal offense!
I personally have gone "under cover" to document abuse at the Cole Brothers Circus while they were touring through South Carolina. After sending the video to various Animal rights organizations and the USDA, I was told the offender was fired. I hope that this is true since I witnessed him hitting an elephant with a broom stick causing it pain that could be heard across a large parking lot!
I truly believe also that in the 21st century we, as "civilized, educated" humans should have "evolved" enough to realize that other creatures we share this planet with also have feelings, experience pain. fear, loneliness, loss, etc. They ARE sentient beings! As a Christian I also believe we are to obey GOD when HE commanded us to "Be GOOD Stewards" of what he has created and Blessed us with!
In the Bible, we can see that GOD first created animals as COMPANIONS, NOT meant for food, since we can read in Genesis 1:29-31 that GREEN plants were created for food for EVERYONE, animals and man alike! It WAS a GARDEN, PARADISE because there was NO death, violence, murder, pain, etc AT ALL!!!!! Christ lived a life of compassion and love for ALL things, great and small!! It is only AFTER man SINNED against GOD that man had to till the soil and death, violence and eating of meat occurs!!
There are over 150 laws in the Bible AGAINST eating meat!
Daniel and many others in the Bible were Vegetarians!
So, I hope that we can continue to "progress" toward a much wiser, enlightened level where we can look into the eyes of ALL living things, realize their value is MUCH more than a "product" and LOVE them as GOD loves them!! Then perhaps we would have Paradise once again!!! We can only dream!!
BUT, it begins with people such as Mary Matalin who speak out for those who cannot!!!
