Well first of all, a lysosome is an organelle that contains enzymes and acids that can be used to break down things. They primarily aid in breaking down food, but they can also be used to attack bacteria, and repair the cellular membrane. If a cell didn't have lysosomes, not only could it not digest food, but it also couldn't protect itself from bacteria!
