The high concentration of erotic art found in the ruins of Pompeii suggests that Roman culture at this time was far more sexually liberated than our own.

Famous examples of erotic art include the much-publicized mosaics found above the doors of brothels. Scholars aren't sure if these were meant to advertise the services offered within, or to titillate the customers.
