During World War II, many U.S. Army troops were stationed in Ashchurch. Can anyone list the U.S. Army units built in Ashchurch during 1942-1944.

Thank you,

I'm not sure if there was more than one base during WWII, but I do know that there was a US base called U.S. G-25.

Dear Crazyman2, Thank you so much for your response. My dad, a US GI from New York, was stationed in Ashchurch during the war, where he met and eventually married my mom. She is from Romford in Essex and was conscripted into service for the duration of the war. After a while in Ashchurch, my dad was sent to France & Germany. He passed away in 2002 and I am trying to piece together his journey through Europe from 1942 - 1945. Can you advise if you know of any places I might find records of U.S. Army units stationed in Ashchurch.

Again, Thanks for this piece of information. I will try to run it down.

Crazyman2, Just want to send you a "THANK YOU" for the lead on G-25 at Ashchurch. Through your tip I was able to locate a website: www.john.history.freeuk that is full of U.S. Army records from this camp. In fact, I found my fathers name listed with his unit, dates, etc. He was stationed in Ashchurch G-25 in barrack 91.

Again, thanks so much for sending me the missing link.

My grandparents lived in Ashchurch for many years and during the war had US servicemen billeted with them. I too am interested in researching which units were there. One interesting part of the stories I heard as a kid is that at one time they had one black soldier and one white assigned to them at the same time and that sounds unlikely to me having now lived in the US for many years and gotten a feeling for how things were 60+ years ago.
