I never read anything in Donal's posted biograghies about his sister or her descendants. He had remained close to his family through his entire life. I mention this as Donal was my great uncle. We still have all of his letters and many fond memories. Most of his biographies assert that he was not in contact with his father- this is not true. He was and still is important to his family.

Dear Patrick
I wanted to find a relative of Florence Hord to give a much belated Thank You. Unfortunately many times in life a person makes a difference in a child's life and by the time one has the maturity to give a thank you it is too late. In 1956 I was a 5th grader at Lemon Ave. school in La Mesa. Florence came to my class as a guest artist to give us watercolor lessons. I always remembered her name and that she was married to the famous scupture Danal Hord. There was a lovely artical last Sunday January 9 in the San Diego Union's Visual Art section featuring some of Danal's work.
The timing of the artical was very poignant for me as I am about to start a new chapter in my life hoping to also make a difference in a child's life. I always remembered how much I enjoyed the watercolor lesson and at the age of 35 in 1981 that I started painting. I have gone on to have a sucessful career in both interior design and selling my paintings. I have retired from the design part and will now be a Casa Volunteer(Court Appointed Special Advocate) for foster children. I will be their mentor and advocate for them in court. During my outtings and activities, I hope my watercolor lessons will be of help to them. I don't know if Florence had any children, but if she did and you could pass this on, I would appreciate it. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Sincerely, Mary Coates Smith mamajo101@aol.com
