Does anyone think that if Nevada Smith's Mother character Tabinaka (played by Isabel Boniface-uncredited)was cast as a white woman the scene showing much of her being skinned alive would have been a part of the movie at all? I saw the movie at the theater when it was released in 1966 and this scene was shown very explicitly. I couldn't get it off my mind and I had a hard time sleeping for weeks. I just saw the movie on TCM which very rarely if ever edits any scenes out of the movies they show. But Nevada Smith as shown on TCM the last few times I've caught it the Mother's cutting scene was edited out. I wonder why--maybe from advise from Robert Osborne who is one of the classiest guys I know of on TV.
