Does anyone know about the wartime practice of flying, in the Sunderland, poultry smuggled in from the Irish republic,
over to the UK mainland. This was done to give service families a bird to cook for Christmas. It was a non profit making enterprise as far as RAF personel were concerned. It continued for a few years after 1945. I learned this story from my father who served in the RAF at the 3 great lochs in Northern Ireland and was confirmed by my late grandmother and still living mother. Any more info gratefuly received. Thanks Sam
