A stiffer law requiring the reporting of a stolen handgun would also help. They should make the reporting be done IMMEDIATELY with a $5000 fine for failure to report.No one (including criminals) would want to face jail time or a really big fine for failing to report a stolen handgun. For that reason, I believe most handgun owners would take extra precautoions to prevent their guns from being stolen in the first place.

I'm talking- GUN SAFES; DEADBOLT LOCKS; MOTION DETECTOR ALARMS; ETC.

Everyone would do a better job of securing their guns better if they KNOW that tracing is a police priority.
