Car will not move in normal drive mode unless I engage the winter drive. How do I diagnose the problem? Do you think it has something to do with the transmission mode switch?

I have a 1997 Isuzu Trooper and it will not move in normal drive mode unless I engage the winter drive. How do I diagnose the problem? Do you think it has something to do with the transmission mode switch?
