Capt Kent is my great great great great grandfather.
He had a very distinguised naval career to include the early colonization years in Australia. The Kent Group Islands were named after him by Matthew Flinders. He took emus back to England for Sir Joseph Banks. He donated land in Sydney to be used for a orphanage.

His wife was Eliza. She was also his cousin. They had one son, William, and two daughters, Eliza & Mary. He talks of them in a letter to Flinders and I am so pleased to find that he felt a great deal for his family.

The irony of this little adventure into my past is the circles that it makes around the globe. Of course, Capt Kent was English. Whilst stationed in Australia Eliza had their son, William, in 1799. This William was orphaned at age 13. His mother died in 1810 and his father died in 1812. He returns to England at some time.

Now count down the generations; three generations later, my mother emigrates from London, to Sydney Australia. Four generations later, Kents are now born in Sydney, Australia again.

I have only discovered the information within the last 24 hours and am thrilled and excited about the new branches of my family tree that I can explore. j. kent
