Bread & Lard island

I always heard that it was Lady Bay that was bread and lard island ... having pretentions beyond their means (to living in upper crust WB) they had over-extended themselves on their mortgages, so residents of the 'island' (Lady Bay being bounded by river, canal and flood plain fields), could only afford to eat bread and lard. Has anyone else heard this version? You only have to look at Lady Bay on the map to see that the island analogy works very clearly for Lady Bay, but really doesn't apply to WB.
