The boxing events took place in Esquimalt. The build-up for the events were
started in 1989 with the formation of a boxing committee. The initial members
of that committee were Hassan Sunderani (chairman) and members were
Glynn Jones (Boxing BC president), Brian Zelley and Mike Sartori.

In 1990, steps were taken to have open meetings for the general public to build-up
a team of volunteers, revise the Greater Victoria Amateur Boxing Association, and
ensure public awareness of the sport, and prepare for the test event to take place
in 1993.
