Senator John Brown of Kentucky was born a twin on Sept. 12, 1757. His twin, James Brown, died in infancy.

His early family is as follows:

Reverend John Brown, father of Sen. John Brown of Kentucky, was married to Margaret Preston Brown. Their marriage produced 11 children, 7 of whom reached maturity*:

1. Elizabeth Brown, b. 1755
2 and 3. James (died in infancy) and (Senator) John Brown, born Sept. 12, 1757 (twins)
4. William Brown, b. 1759 (died in infancy)
5. William Brown, b. 1760
6. Mary Brown, b. 1763
7. James Brown, b. 1766 (1st Secretary of State of Kentucky)
8. Samuel Brown, b. 1769
9. David Brown, b. 1772 (died in infancy)
10.Eben Brown, b. 1773 (died in infancy)
11.Preston Brown, b. 1775
