We entered on an ancestal visa prior april 2006, however did a postal application for i.l.t.r. and was granted last month. Prior april 2006, one could apply for citizenship after 5 years. Apparently now have to wait until january 2011 before we may apply for citizenship, which mean that it will be 6 years, i really think that this is a form of dicrimination.
As firstly at the time when we apllied for an ancestral visa British High Commisioner in my country of origin gave me a blue form with with the rules and requirements needed for ultimately becoming a British Citizen, which clearly stated i.l.t.r can be obtained after only 4 years continious stay in the UK and citizenship after 5 years, please advise?
Secondly, i need to know are we allowed recourse to public funds, seen that it is not stated on the i.l.t.r. visa. As i slipped and fall and it effected my health, at present my long term partner of 22 years is taking care of day to day financial obligations?
Thirdly, if i do claim any benefits, will it inlfuence our application for citizenship?
Fouthly, i lost my house as i could not keep up with mortgage payments due to my health, i am not been working the past year and will that count against me in the citizenship application requirement that i wont be a person of good character?
Many thanks
Noah
