According to family lore, a forest fire starting in Wisconsin & into Canada about the time of the great Chicago fire, raged across US along Lake Huron coastline, Husbands line tells of a fire in Goderich that caused them to put the children in boats in the great lake while adults battled the fire. The plot thickens... in 3 boats were 14 children, the oldest in one of the boats was our direct line, who's name escapes me. The boats were swept across the lake by prevailing winds.
