Renault Laguna

A friend of mine has a 2002 Renault Lagoona and both the car keys have been lost. I have found a mobile automotive locksmith who is very confident that he can supply me with 2 non-remote keys for a price considerably less than the dealer. He has very high-tech reprogramming equipment and get the codes from the dealer. What are the risks of doing it this way as opposed to going through a dealer? Have other people tried this? Is it possible for the automotive locksmith to change the programming, for it to be unsuccessful and cause further problems (ie the dealer would then not be able to reprogram it successfully). Any ideas on how I could check out the quality of the automotive locksmith?

Thanks,
Jo
