2001 corolla s has check engine light showing code P0420.
Is a new catalytic converter required or could it be something else. If I need a new converter do you cut the old one off and attach the new one with adapters and clamp?.

Is the car having any performance issue? Can you have some one clear the code with a hand held scanner? Have you priced the exhaust system? If you clear the code will get by the emissions requirements? These are some questions I would ask myself before I install a new converter? I'm sure they are costly.
