Description

Overview:
Vela (pronouced vay' luh) is the 32nd most volumous constellation in the night sky with an area of 500 square degrees. The name of this constellation means Sails.

Location:
Vela is located at RA 9 h and Declination -50°. It is best seen between latitudes +30° and -90° in the month of March. Vela is adjacent to the following constellations: Antlia, Carina, Centaurus, Puppis, Pyxis.

Stars:
Vela contains within its borders about 76 visible stars. The principal star of Vela is Delta Vel. The brightest star is ? Vel (60.5 ly). Vela also contains within its boundries the following notable stars: Alsuhail, Regor.
