The constellation Pictor (pronouced pik' tor) is the 59th most volumous constellation in the night sky with an area of 247 square degrees. The name of this constellation means Easel.

Location:
Pictor is located at RA 4h 32m - 6h 51m and Declination -43 ~ -64°. Pictor is best seen between the latitudes +26° and -90° in the month of January. Pictor is adjacent to the following constellations: Caelum, Carina, Columba, Dorado, Puppis, Volans.

Stars:
Pictor contains within its borders approximately 15 visible stars. The principal star of Pictor is Alpha Pic. The brightest of Pictor's stars is Kapteyn's Star (12.78 ly). Pictor also contains within its boundries the following noteworthy stars: Alpha Pic.
