Description

Overview:
Lyra (pronouced lie' ruh) is the 52nd largest constellation in the night sky with an area of 286 square degrees. The name of this constellation means Lyre.

Location:
Lyra is located at Right Ascension 19 h and Declination +40°. Lyra is best seen between latitudes +90° and -40° in the month of August. Lyra is adjacent to the following constellations: Cygnus, Draco, Hercules, Vulpecula.

Stars:
Lyra contains within its borders approximately 26 visible stars. The principal star of Lyra is Vega. The brightest star is Vega (a Lyrae) (25.27 ly). Lyra also contains within its boundries the following noteworthy stars: Shelyak, Sulaphat, Vega.
