Messier
Charles Messier
(1730 - 1817) was a French Astronomer who is best known
for his staggering number of discoveries of astronomical
objects.
In 1774, Messier published a catalog of 110 deep sky objects
including Nebulae, Galaxies, and star clusters which is now
know as the
Messier Catalog. This catalog is still widely used
by astronomers today.
His observational work in astronomy led the the discovery of
over 50 galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters.
