Tommy Dorsey
Dorsey Instrument Artifact

Hello. I have a piano that may be a Dorsey owned instrument.

I was about to discard an old piano when I opened the top and discovered a hand written note in red ink on the wood. It says for "the Dorsey band - 1929".

I don't want to throw something out that may be of historical significance.

Can anyone tell me how to track this down? The year seems early but according to the little research I have done this would be in the early years of Dorsey's activities.

The piano is Jenson (Piano/Organ Combo) and the company is no longer around. The Smithsonian supposedly has a box of records from this company but I wouldn't know how to check serial numbers etc.

Appreciate any help.

Bruce

Bruce,
I just stumble accross this post. i hope you still have it and/or have got the answers you were looking for. I am an asst. director and vocalist for a touring 20 piece big band in the US. I am also a amateur big band history specialist. There should be just a few key things that will determine if your piano is a part of american history.

Let me know please...its killing me!
